Winter Session One Themes: Learning from the Masters, Art & Culture and The Science of Art
Art Club: “Learning from the Masters” (Grades K-5)
Tuesdays, 3:30 - 5pm
January 16th-February 20th
A class designed to build art skills by learning from the life and styles of a diverse group of renowned art masters across history, implementing projects inspired by their techniques. Each week you will be introduced to a new artist, background on their career and techniques and create your own version of their masterpieces! A perfect class for beginning artists and those continuing their classes alike. Artists covered: Georgia O'Keeffe, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, Faith Ringgold, Yayoi Kusama & Pablo Picasso

Art Club with Didi: Two different themes! (choose one or take both!)
“Art & Culture” (Grades K-5)
Wednesdays, 4-5:30pm January 17th- February 21st
Venture on an artistic journey starting right here at home to around the world through art and imagination. Create projects inspired by stories and elements of culture like art, dance, music, traditions, and even food, while expressing your own ideas and interests. Build your arts skills and creativity using variety of media and techniques including drawing, painting, printing, and collage.
“The Science of Art” (Grades K-5)
Thursdays 4-5:30pm January 18th- February 22nd
Observe, investigate, hypothesize, and discover science through art! Create projects about microscopic to enormous wonders of the universe and everything in between. Explore fascinating questions: “Why do zebras have stripes?” “Why do we see rainbows?” Why are honeybees super pollinators?” Experiment with traditional and surprising materials like shaving cream, sodium, natural dyes, and more.
INSTRUCTOR: Didi Johnson is an art educator with over 30 years of experience. Along with teaching art, Didi writes arts integrated curriculum with an emphasis on STEAM concepts and social and emotional learning (SEL). She also facilitates professional development for educators.
Didi holds a master’s degree in creative arts therapy and is a certified art teacher. Originally from New York, Didi moved to Oregon in 2019 after living in Wisconsin for a decade. Now residing in Newberg, Didi enjoys her own art practice, gardening, cooking, nature, and spending time with her husband Marc, and her dog, Maizie.
