Artist Instructor: Christine Joy Swanson
This coming January Christine Joy is looking forward to teaching a new drawing class focusing on creating drawings of some of our favorite pets - dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, and other small pets. Drawing is one of the most important skills to learn (and continue learning) as an artist, for both the beginner and the advanced! We will be practicing drawing from life and from photographs - using a variety of mediums (charcoal, pen, pencil).
In this 4 week class, each session will begin with a demonstration by Christine, and then the rest of class will be drawing time for the students. Christine will make sure each student gets attention and tips based on their level of experience.
Here is a basic outline some things we will do in our coming class:
Week 1: Drawing Dogs- Here we will learn how to do some gestural drawings from life and also complete a more finished drawing of a dog.
Week 2: Cats - Like the first week we will have some practice in gestural drawing from life as well as more refined drawing. Our subject being cats, we will discuss a bit of what features specifically stand out with cats.
Week 3: Birds - Here we will be creating drawings of various birds. Christine will be spending some time teaching how to create different shading and textures in the drawing of feathers.
Week 4: Small pets - For our last day of class we will be creating a finished drawing of small pets like rabbits. Christine will provide photographs to work from, and students are welcome to bring their own photo references as well.
Through learning these drawing skills together, we will discover many strategies to make drawing not only easier but also enjoyable!
Christine is looking forward to drawing with you!
