BOARD OF DIRECTORS

ANNIE SHULL, President

Board member since 2021

Annie Shull has been a resident of the Hillsboro/Newberg area since 1997, sharing her home and business life with Founding Winegrower Scott Shull of Raptor Ridge Winery. Her background in curriculum development for technical sales teams segued into a 15-year role of distribution sales management and operations management. For the past 20 years, Annie has served the Oregon wine industry and surrounding community in a variety of ways. Annie currently serves on the Diversity, Equity, Belonging and Inclusion Council and as board member of the Willamette Valley Wine Foundation. Annie Chairs the DEI committee at the Cultural Center. When she’s not working, Annie enjoys cycling, and teaching and learning about meditation. Annie is a certified Mindfulness Meditation Instructor, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher, and has recently taught MBSR classes at the Cultural Center!

POLLY PETERSON, Vice President

Board member since 2023

Polly Peterson joined the Chehalem Cultural Center board in 2022. She is deeply interested in the Cultural Center as a space for creative conversation, where the voices and views of people from all backgrounds can spark deeper culture awareness, cross-communication, and a community that is better for all.  Having enrolled in watercolor and drawing classes, she has experienced first-hand the joy CCC classes. While a professor of English at George Fox University, Polly helped write plays for the local Valley Repretory Theatre company which performed in the CCC’s Black Box Theater. Now she serves on the board of directors for Gather Repretory, another local theatre company that performs at the center as well as other locations around town. She sees art shows, classes, events, and theater — all the things the Cultural Center hosts — as way to bring our community together.

JESSICA HANEY, Secretary

Board member since 2021

Jessica Haney is a program manager at Hazelden Bettyford Foundation in Newberg, Oregon. She is a Newberg resident who first involved herself at the Chehalem Cultural Center by attending Martin Luther King Celebrations and became inspired to be more involved in her community. She returns each year to honor Martin Luther King and to connect with her very own roots and culture. Having spent much of her time in Newberg in isolation because there did not appear to be acceptance of diversity, she found participating in activities at the CCC gave her hope and the feeling she was finally at home in her community. To Jessica, culture is the cornerstone of connection. She believes culture has the ability to connect people as it is the greatest part of who they are and can help a community move away from any hatred, fear, racism or bias it may harbor.

DEVEN MORGANSTERN, Treasurer

Board member since 2022

Having started his wine career as a harvest intern, Deven is currently General Manager for R. Stuart & Co. Winery. He has worked at just about every level of the business and still enjoys spending time in the cellar when he can. Recently, he launched his own winemaking project aptly called Joyful Noise. As a youth growing up in Salem, Deven credits his involvement in music programs for keeping him in school and ultimately opening the door for him to go to college. Deven is an active member of the Center's annual Night of the Moon fundraising gala and serves on the event's wine procurement committee. He enjoys engaging the relationships he has built in the wine industry to help raise funds ensuring all kids growing up in our community have the same opportunities to find art as the catalyst toward personal growth that music was for him.
