Our 2024 Guest Judge is David Kinker. Coming to us from Bend, Oregon, David is a highly skilled craftsman and artist with a background in architectural illustration.
David’s been an art educator since 2001, teaching at Central Oregon Community College, the Art Station, and Sagebrushers Art Society. David’s goal in art education is to help students increase their skills of observation and awareness, demystify the process, and paint with increased confidence and control.
He has been a juror for a number of exhibitions and art shows including the Black Butte Plein Air Paint Out, Smith Rock Plein Air Paint Out, and Art in the High Desert.
A master of perspective and dimension, his expansive realistic and surrealistic murals fill the walls of restaurants like McMenamins and Silver Moon Brewery, medical centers, the historic Tower Theater, and private residents.
As a passionate river enthusiast, he has commercially guided whitewater rafting trips on 15 different US rivers, in addition to international expedition trips in South America. Combining his passions, he currently guides plein air painting rafting trips along the John Day and Deschutes river.
David has been written about many times, including by Plein Air Magazine, Bend Living, Cascade Arts And Entertainment, and Central Oregon Magazine. He was voted best artist in Central Oregon in 2004 by Source Weekly.
